Very important peace of code, but you have small mistake, for us visitors. This line of the second code

<a href="/"></a>

The closing h1 should be h2.
This post make a new vision for me :)
Thanks!

Some great info. here Alex, thanks for this!

I did have some slight trouble however when inserting the titles into a h1 tag at the top of my page as my theme didn’t have them, instead it used an image with text in the image itself (Very bad practice I know) and so when I then tried to hide the text heading from view with ‘display: none’ using css my whole site disappeared. The work around for this was attaching the ‘display: none’ to a class and then putting span elements with this class around the heading text.

I’m not explaining this too well but if you look at my source code on http://www.pnefc-online.co.uk you will see. I hope this helps others in my predicament.

Thanks once again. (posted wrong link sorry)

This is very valuable information. It's crazy that 2 years later, wordpress still doesn't recognize the value of placing the H1 or H2 in the correct position.

Thanks for the code, I have made this change to my site.

Optimizing your page’s title tag is a very important step in on-page optimization for several reasons. It is typically displayed prominently on the first line of your listing in the organic search engine results pages (SERPs).It is displayed in the browser title bar (the blue bar across the top of your browser). It is the single MOST influential on-page ranking factor considered by most search engines in their ranking algorithms.

CHEWDAFACT, I said YOU SHOULD use it only ONCE per page, and in good relationship to your page's content. There's no contradiction here to what anyone SEO pro would tell your, or what the web coding standards dictate. Go through the post again and check out what you might have misunderstood.

Thanks Alex. I usually use h2 in the subheading. I will try to use h3 instead to see if does make any difference. Would it really make any difference?

I don't think my last thing showed because I used tags in the example.

It was supposed to say "your tags are /h2 /h1 instead of /h2 /h2
