Very true, indeed. Building a very strong network must be the focus of a blogger, if he wants to have more readers. And to do that, readers must learn from his post. If he does, he will share your blog to others which is a free promotion on your part.

Helping others, or inspiring others is the best way to earn trust but it is that easy too. There might be, or most likely there will be better than you are.

For me, the focus of a blogger can only fall into 2 techniques. First, don't just make quality content. Create it. Bring out the artist in you. Do it in a different way that readers will not look anywhere else.

Second, promote it in smart way, not in an intelligent way. Socialize, as if you don't need anything from them. Create an image that they will never forget.

Any strategy of promotion can work out, but not all kinds of strategies are applicable to you.

Rarst: Nice technique for Blogging Idol 2. :)

Indeed, as long as the comments are valuable and a bit elaborate, they'll stand out.

Mitch: I've never used comments as a way to attract traffic. I still don't consider that (with a few exceptions) comments cannot drive an amount of traffic that would not be attracted much easier by investing less time in other activities and strategies.

Commenting is to build awareness, authority and a community of readers. That's why I encourage people to comment GOOD on niche blogs. Because instead of getting 3 visitors that might never return, they'll get one that might return daily, or every time you publish something new.

I value the quality of my visitors because only the engaged community can power a blog to success.

I've talked often about commenting on other people's blogs, but I've never talked about concentrating on a niche when looking for blogs to comment on. Mainly because that's just so boring, I hate to say. For my primary business, I follow a few blogs that are in the niche, but for the most part those writers are, well, dull, and don't leave me wanting to say anything. So, I favor finding blogs you happen to like; sure, you won't get "targeted" traffic, but sometimes, for a blog, traffic is good enough.

I think it's not really what you do. It's how serious you are about it.

I've had people come to my blog saying "Hey, I've seen you [on that high traffic blog]". Even if that blog has crowd of commenters it's still easy to stand out when you pare roviding valuable comments.

I think first email to Alex I sent was about broken link. I am pretty sure that link was on landing page for some time and plenty of people noticed it. And I am also pretty sure that I was noticed for sending that mail. :)

Promotion is not following instructions. Promotion is making people want to check your blog.
