I’m finding less of uniqueness and more of “how do I stand out in the crowd?” For the market in which I write there doesn’t seem to be anyone like me but the closely related crowd is huge – and that’s where the readers go. My question to you is, how does one get the circulation for a more information-related blog with less gimics and giveaways?

Paul, you are 90% right.
90% because you are right about success having different meanings. Even for me, between different projects, it varies between, simple pleasure of expression to awareness or income.

Either way, uniqueness is “required”. I doubt that someone looking to accomplish himself as a writer will feel real joy when managing to be a copy-cat, for example.

So what about the 10%? Well, I don’t think that every blog is unique. There are bloggers that cannot find they own path and remain in the shadow of their role models. It’s an unfortunate fact, but real enough. Evolution doesn’t work the same for everyone. And at least, not with enough passion and will.

Anyway, all in all, yours it’s a good observation.

Every blog is unique, in my opinion. Not every blog stands out, which sometimes we associate with success.

Some don’t even want their blogs to be successful (aka well-known), but merely a way to keep track of actions or to share thoughts with your friends. Sometimes, these blogs become famous, even if the initial purpose wasn’t the traffic.

What you call “surviving” as a blogger can have a lot of different meanings.
