  • Wordpress is really becoming the most popular CMS. It feels good to be using the best ever CMS in the world, isn’t it? Even I use it on many of websites (not blogs). :)

    Awesome list.

  • Great collection of wordpress powered non-blog websites. Basically any cms no matter how low-tech it is can be turned into a nice non-blog website. Difference between wordpress and all the others is, wordpress makes it much easier for the developer. :)

  • P.S.:

@chetan: wordpress is a good cms but isn’t “the world’s best cms”, it lacks patterned object orientated programming, and perfect security. If you think about it, expression engine or any cms build with code igniter has those traits, thus making them better then wordpress, but we’re lazy and we usually prefer something simpler.

  • I think wordpress has its place as a mainstream easy to use cms that the masses can easily integrate into their own site. I do think the above list shows an important point that as it is mainstream large companies are utilising it instead (or their design companies are choosing to use it).

  • Chetan, WordPress is definitely not the best CMS around as Stefan stated too. It’s just probably one of the most easy to use, customize and well documented one. And that makes it so popular and also my “weapon of choice”.

Pete I agree that TVE does look good.

  • these are very nice examples. I’ve been using square space and I love it but it’s not cheap. its very flexible and I am still learning how to import a site I would typically build in dreamweaver or stratch into their code injection areas but not easy. I imagine any blog CMS takes some knowledge to build sites outside the templates. Am i wrong?>

  • So which is the best? Surely not typepad. Joomla?

  • I absolutely love seeing new ways that Wordpress can be used as the CMS it is. Thanks for the shares!

While I agree with the above it’s not the ‘best’ CMS in the world it’s certainly, as I’m sure all here will agree, made it’s mark and it’s really amazing to see what can be done with it outside of the realm of blogging.

  • I am about to move one of my websites across to wordpress. This site cost me lots of $$$$$ but I am hoping to get much more out of it by moving to wp. If anyone has some ideas on how to best do this please let me know!

  • Anne What’s the best way to do what? Actually it doesn’t matter. Even if you ask for the best way to move to WP or the best way to get the maximum out of it, the answer is the same and pretty simple.

“Go with a PRO and make sure you get the best customer service out of that agency or freelancer.”

Generally, the cost of getting a site on WP should be a bit lower than other solutions, but could get bigger with different custom features you need implemented. Now, it’s a matter of personal finance what each of us understands through “lost of $$$$$”.

  • I would like to nominate http://www.101holidays.co.uk. (Full disclosure: I’m one of the editors). It has already been featured in Wordpress Showcase, http://wordpress.org/showcase/101-holidays/

  • It’s always amazing to see what can be done with wordpress. I designed my hubby’s company website using wordpress even though it is not a blog…but I used a commercial theme for it, so I don’t feel like it’s worthy of gallery showcase – though it has been heavily tweaked for the colors and such. People constantly compliment us on how nice our site is!

  • I really like what’s been done with http://www.theprobar.com

  • Hey thanks for featuring P41! So awesome that you did that! Love the Web site and the article is great, some awesome choices for WEb sites!

  • http://www.thefordstory.com is a good commercial one

  • Hey, I am in the process of designing a company website using wordpress. I was wondering how you find these non blog websites that use CMS? I would love to see more and see the capabilities of Wordpress for inspiration.

  • Truly, wordpress has come a long way not just for blogs but for websites as well.

  • Good. Thanks :)

  • I didn’t realise so many good looking non-blog sites were using Wordpress, so thanks for the list.

  • The ability to create stunning design on a wonderful backbone of Wordpress has changed the way we build sites. Great collection!

  • Awesome lists and wordpress had evolved into a mature CMS.All the examples looks good but i personaly impressed with P41Studios.com.Thanks for the great share!

  • So which is the best? Surely not typepad.

  • Can these designs be incorporated into a shopping cart?

  • Ben, these are not free themes for blogs. These are custom designed layouts for client projects.

  • I could add this to the list: http://www.black-friday-sales.org/ (hopefully I’m allowed to add links…). It’s not really the best looking theme, but it’s very customized and does it’s job very well .

  • The ability to create stunning design on a wonderful backbone of Wordpress has changed the way we build sites. Great collection!

  • awesome list. this goes to show how powerful wordpress is can can be.

  • Wordpress is going to put web designers out of business! It is quite a mature CMS, and I use it all of the time.

  • The list makes me realize how much my site sucks. I have a long way to go! Thanks for the list they really are amazing.

  • Wordpress is the most populer CMS. You can use WP as what do you want. Good templates.

  • The trouble with using WP for a non-blog site is that it nearly almost still looks blog-alike.

  • Word press continues to amaze me every time i think i have found the right theme for my business i go to another wp site and see another theme better then the next Wp Rock keep up
    the Good theme design

  • Great review. WordPress actually won’t put Web Designers out of business; it’ll interest more people to BECOME Web Designers! ;)

What we find is, once certain aspects become “easy” and do-it-yourself like the front-end publishing, there are always more technical and challenging tasks you can use professionals to handle (for now) like storefront integration, asset management and a whole host of good things.

  • Thanks for share .This is cool.

  • Awesome blogs!!! Love number 4!

  • Thanks for collection!!! The first is cool.

  • i like number 5 its pretty cool
    thanks

  • When we are talking about Content Management System, WordPress is the number one with its unique features like Simplicity, Flexibility and Productivity.

Many people consider WordPress as a blogging platform which is indeed the best one. However, as you have shown here, this CMS resource could give us more options.

Non-Blog websites have become more in demand for many business owners today. To be honest with you, they don’t want their websites look like a blog with an ascending or descending form of content. They are looking for a powerful website enabling them to add, edit and publish content in an easy way.

WordPress is still the most powerful system for doing so. When I checked out some of these websites, I got really speechless. So, it could be another reason for convincing those who think WordPress is just a blogging thing! ;)

Thanks Alex for this impressive post!

    Just keep it up!

    Peace!

    Hooshmand

  • It seems that wordpress seems to be the way forward. Look easy and simple to use so i will definatley try it out.

  • Loved the themes, especially that of Herout. Thanks for sharing the details.

  • Are there any “personal” 1 or 2 page blog/websites that you can point out that are worth seeing. I have to do something very similar for a “Graphics” client and I’m stuck. Please help! :)

  • Awesome collection indeed.

  • It seems that wordpress seems to be the way forward. Look easy and simple to use so i will definatley try it out…

  • Very nice website designs. Wordpress is improving day by day going to be number one CMS in near future.

  • Great collection. Big fan of using wordpress as a CMS. Just about solely use wordpress to build client cms websites now.

Why would you use anything else!

  • this is a great collection and with the plug ins available i find that I can really do things that I had to pay people for in the past.

I have now migrated from joomla to cms wordpress.

  • This is a really nice collection. I came from joomla into wordpress as well. It was a very wise decision. Wordpress is awesome.

  • These are some very nice website designs. Gotta love Wordpress!

  • Hi,

    Looks very cool….

    The quality at its best….

    Steve

  • it’s always amazing to see what can be done with wordpress.Thank you for share..

  • Nice collection of Wordpress templates. The good thing about Wordpress is that it can be handle and use even by a kid. In my time, you have to buy your own diary and write down your experiences but now you just have to log-in, write, publish then log-out.:)

  • There are some interesting website based on wordpress. But I’m erally impressed by your blog sub-title – that’s great :-)

  • The first time I ventured into blogging, I was researching which platform to use because there seems to be a lot out there and all seems to have very enthusiastic supporters. I am not sure how but I was just naturally inclined to choose Wordpress after a few comparisons. Maybe I just came to try it, but eventually settled to using it because it works really wonderfully well. And it is being constantly updated and revised. It only means that I’ve made the right choice.

Yeah, my kid is also showing interest in what I do. With Wordpress, teaching him would be a breeze.

  • Thank admin…

    Very nice samples!

Sparked a really a fun discussion too. Any idea on about how much it would cost to have a site like this built on WP?

  • the samples look fresh, I really love Wordpress templates than Blogger, I’m planning to switch my blog into Wordpress

  • Holy moly. To think Wordpress is so powerful! I guess if you get the right template, it could be a CMS for anything! Do you think it can be used for ecommerce?

  • Yes, Todd, it can be used for ecommerce, too, and quite easily.

I use the WP e-commerce plugin for this and have created WP e-commerce sites for several clients, doing everything from setting up the hosting account to installing WP, creating the design, customizing the e-commerce plug-in, and adding the inital products.

Here are a couple of examples:

    Sparkle and Charm Boutique

    Unique Gifts and Home Decor

  • WOW.

    Definitely gave me some inspiration.
I thought of building my new portal using Drupal… but it seems that wordpress can still make it.

Are any of these free for download..?

    Thanks.

  • Can any of these themes be used with WP direct? Some of them are absolutely gorgeous!

Is it possible, though, with such appealing templates that we have gotten away from the goal and the ability to make your own website from scratch?

  • All the themes are very nice.Quality is best.

  • The websites are really nice. And – atleast for me – it is not visible, that they are based on Wordpress

  • All the themes are very nice.Quality is best.

  • I am grateful to you for this great content.
Great theme. Really makes any images you have on there stand out.

  • Wordpress is getting better and better and is now not just used for ‘blogging’, with more and more plugins being developed every day – the more your site is able to do.

  • Very intresting collection. Thank you.

  • As a blogger, i rather using the worpress platform to manage my content. These sites are impressive, clean design and good looking ones.

  • Wordpress is no doubt a very powerful platform for either blogs or websites. I find that you need to have a blog attached to any kind of website design in order to take advantage of the
online and off-line SEO afforded by fresh content.

  • so beautiful.. but, for easy management content, blog espcially wordpress is the best :D

  • Hi, nice list.I wish i had one of those theme. It looks great!

  • wow, it’s really good idea and new way to utilize wordpress software. nice information

    Regards !
    Smith

  • I love wordpress for it’s ease and versatility. It also has some great SEO properties

  • Hello everyone,

    What about that one?
    http://www.krispykrush.com/

    Thank you,
    M.

  • Those are some gorgeous examples of websites done right. I’m a graphic designer by background but my SEO division chief slowly turned me into someone that loves Wordpress. It’s really worth learning how to modify and design on this platform for a number of reasons.

Again, thanks for those samples. Really nice work.

  • The bottom line is Wordpress is easy to get, plugins are easy to find, themes are unlimited, using the admin section is simple, and very well suported. I love it and these are nice ways it was used.

  • Really good designs. Long time ago i saw a quality this high!

  • Wordpress is much easy to use than any other software it great i cant even imagine that you can use wordpress for these site nice work

  • Thank you for sharing. Great!

  • I’m using wordpress right now and i just feel comfort with it.

Try to pick some idea throughtout these websites.

    Anyway.Nice info. Thanks :)

  • hello,
thanks for sharing such a nice blog with us.
word press is a nice CMS , really and the feature about this theme is also very good.
all the best for good work.

  • I try to use Wordpress exclusively for any Web design projects. After a few years, I can proudly say, “Google Me.” Go ahead and try.

  • I think the days where visitors would click on a link and end up on a wordpress site and say ” uh, not a blog!” is over. I thinks we still need a good wysiwyg editor, although I do have themedreamer, which really helps sometimes, coupled with firebug to tweak settings there is very little reason to to use a html editor and ftp software to put up a site. If only we could just beat the hackers!
