WordPress Powered Websites – The Real Deal

By now, you should know that I’m a WordPress fan. While most people regard it as a simple blogging platform, some see beyond that and realize that WordPress is a very capable CMS.

While working with it as a website CMS will not allow too many customizations for entry-level developers or users, in the hands of a pro WordPress is ready to perform miracles.

The advantages of WordPress powered websites

There are quite a bunch of advantages when developing websites using WordPress as CMS, but the most important are:

  • Productivity – A lot less time spent on development, which guarantees a lower cost and still high quality;
  • Ease of use – Both client-side and developer-side. The amount of tutorials, plugins and support groups available out there is a divine gift;
  • Updates – The WordPress community is very involved in keeping the project up to date and bug free and the updates are so easy to apply.

It’s enough to run a search on Google and you’ll see how many people praise the power of WordPress but instead of using words, this time I’ll use results.

The real deal

If in the past weeks you’ve seen less activity on Blogsessive is mostly because my design studio, QBKL Media has been working on delivering top notch quality for one of its clients that chose WordPress as the platform for their website redesign.

The client is one of Romania’s oldest post-revolutionary hotel – Caro Hotel – and today we’re pleased to announce the official launch of their website.

So, instead of going on and on about the power of WordPress, I invite you to see for yourself what can be achieved. And believe me that this is only a small part of the real deal!

  • I absolutely agree. Wordpress can be used for blogs, ecommerce and download sites. There is no end to whta this platform can do in allowing you to create a wide range of websites. No site is without at least a blog portion these days, so Wordpress makes sense. You automatically have the blog set up and you can do just about anything to your pages for any purspose by using plugins.

  • I used it too for some clients. Right now I am transforming WP into a real estate CMS. BTW, nice work for Caro Hotel. Bafta;)

  • i totally agree with this!
I’m a graphic designer and only can code some basic html. So this works fine! I’m trying to put my old site in the wordpress enviroment.

  • Totally agree! I’m also a dedicated to wordpress designer and in my company we use it for the majority of our projects. We made some interesting experiments with it and i’m transforming it into a “scholarships search engine” and a “site of the day” website.

It will be interesting to gather up weird wordpress installations in the future!

  • Cannot agree with you more! When you start fiddling around with WP and start figuring it out, the possibilities are endless. I too am starting to convert my clients’ sites to WP. First one, should be launched next month (crap… I gotta get crackin’! LOL)

Love what you’ve done with the Hotel site! *two thumbs up*

  • Really nice site design. Great job! I can see many applications where developing a site with WP can really be beneficial. The ease of use can really help many overcome some obstacles with online content.

  • Great looking template, thanks!

  • I’ve been keeping myself busy with a quite few WP powered websites lately, so I know exactly how much work you’ve put into this project. I love the jQuery integration and clean design. Great work! I have a feeling there’s more where that came from.

P.S. We have some catching up to do, but I have a feeling that’s not gonna happen too soon! Busy, busy, busy! ;)

  • WP is great for a light duty CMS. I just built a site for a business on WP. They were skeptical until I had a site working with all the desired features in 2 days. The last site they contracted out w/ another developer took a month to get up running and still doesn’t have everything working right almost a year later.
For most uses WP is a great platform. If a more hard core CMS is required Joomla or Drupal are great options but overkill for most sites.

  • Good job on the Caro Hotel website. Will the upcoming QBKL website also use wordpress? I am planning to upload a website for my new company but I don’t have much content yet so I was planning to atleast start a corporate blog connected to it to help generate buzz. Do you have suggestions for a good (clean) theme for this? I dont mind paying for a premium theme as long as it is not overly expensive.

  • Thank you everyone for your comments and the kind word on the Caro Hotel website!

Since some of you already work with WordPress as designers, I do invite you to share your project with us for other people to see what can be achieved with WordPress.

Adrian We do have some catching up to do. Rest assured we’ll get together soon enough. Oh, and nice work on that “financial project” of yours. Looks amazing! :)

Bob WordPress is 10 times more upfront than Joomla or Drupal, at least from where I stand. Once you get to build a nice list of functions and classes to work with, WP will start to look more like a framework than a light-CMS, and so, it will ease up your future development.

kunal, the upcoming QBKL website – which is ready but just needs a little bit more info added – is not going to be built on WP. Since we like to let our work speak for us, the website will be mostly a one page website containing all that we need to communicate with our clients.

If you’re looking for a clean design, I’d suggest Adrian’s Corporate Sandbox. As a designer, just by looking at his theme I can see about a hundred ways to personalize the theme. Worth taking a look at.

Also, do have a look at this collection of corporate WordPress templates.

Theme Forest also has a good collection of really affordable WordPress themes, well structured based on their purpose.

  • Hi, I’m a webdesigner in charge of a hotel’s webpage. I wanted to try wordpress as a cms, and the only thing I’m having second thoughts about is the booking system. Can you tell me if you used an available plugin (if so, its name), developed one yourself, or linked to a separate engine? Thanks :)

  • Aina, the hotel has been using an external booking system for a long while, and we agreed to stick with it.

  • Alex, this was a good read for me. I have subscribed to your RSS via feedburner :-) I hope to get future updates.
Please send me good tips on my email. Thanks.

  • great article. thank

  • I am looking for a clean and ite magazine style theme for wordpress without too many function calls, any suggestions?. thanks in advance :)

  • Hmm… the Team of Wordpress should spend more time in fixing Bugs, than in new projects, such as community systems. There are lots of bugs and exploits, that making tons of fun in updating a wordpress system. I recomment to use a good rule set for the apache server, when you´re going to run a wordpress blog.

  • Really nice site design. You really nicely explain Advantages of WordPress i completely agree with you. Thank you for the post.

  • Great info. You have just convinced me to go to wordpress for my website re-design of my apartment rental business. I wasn’t aware of all the capabilities of WP even though I also run a blog. I also hadn’t considered the cost benefits of workingwith an existing environment. It makes so much sense! I love the idea of still being the one managing my own website.

Thanks also to Adrian from Rubiqube who has some awesome examples of WP website on his site.

Time to find a web design company!
