Hey Matt, don't take my words literally. The "Surely Won't" was a general statement, not related to WhyDoWork.com in particular. It was a statement meant from a loyal fan's, as you say, point of view. Although, I comment on anyone's blog as long as the post is good and makes me want to contribute.

I only wanted to point out the fact that a loyal fan won't be moved by a simple buy-out announcement. That more is required to make him feel involved and connect to the new resource.

Anyway, I'm glad you have decided to post more about this merger(? - would be a more appropriate term) and I'll check it out, of course.

Good questions and I'm glad you asked them.

I have received quite a bit of feedback on this sale in particular and it's probably worth a post. I'll be sure to link to this topic when I publish.

I know you've said you "surely won't" post comments on our site, but perhaps you can budge just once and consider commenting on my reply? :)

Your point on permanent redirect is correct from a search engine's point of view. Still the community problem is a big one. Otherwise, the acquisition is just a massive article buy-out.

Don't you think that a slower movement toward the new location would have been better? Creating and consolidating your name on Blogging Mix (not only through an announcement post) and building this trust, only to move everything at later moment, in 1 or 2 months?

I'm just asking...

Interesting take on things but I think you're forgetting the beauty of permanent redirection :)

because we're using 301 redirects:
-all of the backlinks
-all of the SEO scores
- all of the indexed pages

are credited to their new permanent location on the WhyDoWork site. :)

This eliminates much of the risk you've outlined above.

The risk that does remain is as you say going with the redirect and following the new site. Some loyal fans who might not trust the change could pass up on coming over, but I believe our content is strong and the features we offer impressive enough to keep a few on board.
