My friend Adrian Diaconescu has released a new free WordPress theme called Empty Canvas. Those familiar with his previous theme, Corporate Sandbox will observe the similarities between these two themes, but as Adrian says: “[...] don’t download this theme and expect the Mona Lisa. It’s only a simple theme, that does wonders for me.“

I’ll tell you what to expect. Expect a clean design, an update of his old theme, ready to be adjusted as you see fit for your future project and mostly for corporate blogs. The name says it all. This is a clean, empty canvas waiting for your creativity spark!

Empty Canvas

Empty Canvas is a two column widget ready WordPress theme, compatible with WordPress 2.7+, cross-browser tested and valid. It does not feature support for threaded comments by author’s decision (probably to preserve the comment styling). As the author says, the theme is “following a ‘want more stuff? add it yourself!’ philosophy“.

On January 26th, Performancing.com, in collaboration with Sophia Lucero, launched the “Too Newsy” free WordPress theme, and this is one theme you should definitely check out.

Too Newsy is a very clean 3 column WordPress theme that does excellent use of space, colors an typography. I’ll say it again: I love the typography of this theme. The two sidebars are widget-ready and the theme has built-in support for gravatars and threaded comments. The download files are available in two versions, one for WordPress 2.7 and the other for WordPress versions prior to 2.7.

Well, Simple Balance version 2.0 has just got out of development stage and for today will be in a testing stage across a few WordPress versions. If all goes well, tomorrow you’ll be able to download it and take it for a test drive. For now, version 1.0 is still available for downloads.

And because I’m convinced that good quality can still be delivered for free sometimes, this new version of Simple Balance gives you just about enough control of its settings, but don’t take my word for it. See for yourself in the following screenshots.

Seeing a fellow compatriot succeeding in making a difference online always makes me proud. Such is the case of Alexandru Cosmin, a talented Romanian designer and blogger that recently contacted me, pointing out one of his recent free WP themes releases, ACosminTech. What I saw was impressive so I decided to share that theme with you.

I went back to his blog only to find out he had released yet another one, based on the recently lauched Google Chrome browser, Chrome Tweaks. So, instead of sharing one beautiful theme with you, I’ll share two beautiful, free WordPress themes created by Alex from ACosmin.com.

Chrome Tweaks

Chrome Tweaks is a beautiful, light, 3 column WordPress theme, designed in nice shades of blue. It is advertising and widget ready, uses SiFR for heading (excellent typography), Gravatars for comments and comes with a PSD and font file included so that you can adjust the logo to your needs.

ACosminTech

ACosminTech is another 3 column WordPress theme, featuring a well balanced design on a dark background. Posts are still displayed on a white background for easier reading. All that Alex is asking in return for these excellent themes is that you keep the footer links intact and do not add sponsored links, which at the moment are not present.

Corporate Sandbox

Based on “The Sandbox” by plaintxt.org, Corporate Sandbox is a minimal, clean, widget-ready, valid theme suitable for corporate blogs. It has cross-browser support, and I’ve tested it on WordPress 2.5 and 2.3.3 with success. Adrian was kind enough to implement some changes that I’ve suggested to make the theme more customizable, and so, he recently released the 1.1 version of this theme.
